New rules limit fishing hours on Parks Highway streams

Sport fishers planning to fish for King Salmon in streams that are open to king salmon fishing along the Parks Highway need to be aware of a new regulation this year that prohibits fishing from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., and anglers also need to know that Goose Creek is closed completely to taking of king salmon this year.

Festive Fourth planned in Talkeetna
 

Talkeetna’s annual Moose on Parade will be held on the Fourth of July, with the parade starting at noon, followed by an auction of the moose in the Village Park at about 3 p.m., and a host of other activities are planned throughout the day.

Assembly lowers mill rate

Six full-time paramedics, a snowmachine trailhead at Hatcher Pass, a consultant for port development, a lower areawide mill rate and a rebate for Mat-Su taxpayers are part of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough budget of $375,490,644 that was recently passed by the Borough Assembly. Of this amount, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District receives $259 million, with $48,347,365 of that coming from local taxpayers.

A group of area residents upset with the location of a new cell tower near Mile 1 of the Talkeetna Spur Road turns out to give an AT&T representative and the company's consultant an earful regarding the proposed location of a new tower off of Lichtenwalner Road near Fish Lake.
