Area residents seek Y, Talkeetna shuttle If you live along or near the Talkeetna Spur Road or need to travel to or from the Y to Talkeetna on a regular basis, shuttle service may be coming your way in the future. Service also possibly could be available in Willow.
A small group of Talkeetna area residents met at the Sunshine Community Health Clinic with Lou Friend III of Mat-Su Community Transit (MASCOT) and Mike Weller from the Borough to discuss the possibility of providing shuttle service. [more]Assembly OKs Su Valley construction PALMER — The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly on Aug. 5 approved with no objections the contract with Collins construction Co. to build the new 51,000-square-foot Susitna Valley Junior-Senior High School went to Collins Construction, Inc.
Assembly member Tom Kluberton said the amount approved was $17,701,214 and noted that the contract with Collins provides a $2,500 per day bonus for every day that the school is completed ahead of the contract completion date in December 2009. [more]Butts sentenced on federal charge ANCHORAGE – Palmer resident Kendra Butts, one of the women involved in a robbery of seven children at gunpoint in Talkeetna last Halloween, was sentenced on July 23 to six months in federal prison for conspiring to obstruct justice. Following completion of her sentence of imprisonment, Butts will be on federal supervised release for three years. [more]Willow man dies in four-wheeler accident A Willow man who was injured in a four-wheeler accident on July 13 died at 2:03 p.m. July 14 at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage.
Alaska State Troopers from Talkeetna and Willow medics responded at 9:25 a.m. on July 13 to a report of an overturned four-wheeler with a person trapped underneath near Mile 71 of the Parks Highway. Investigation revealed that Jonathan E. Minturn, 38, of Willow, was found by two passing motorists pinned underneath his four-wheeler at about 9 a.m. on July 13. Willow medics treated Minturn on scene for trauma to his head, neck and upper torso.
Minturn was transported by medics to the Willow airport, where he was transferred to a Life Guard helicopter and taken to Providence Medical Center. 14.JUL.08 S.
