Interior Secretary to visit Alaska

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. Lisa Murkowski recently announced that she Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), chair of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee. will visit Alaska for an August visit.

“Sometimes when Alaskan issues are discussed on Capitol Hill," Murkowski said, "things get lost in translation because policymakers simply don’t know enough about our state.

“It’s important that national leaders fully understand Alaska’s potential – and that’s why I have invited Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Senator Jack Reed, chairman of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, to Alaska in a few weeks to show them the work being done to increase domestic energy production on the North Slope and adjacent waters. We will also be examining the new Native hospital in Barrow, visiting the BLM firefighting facilities in Fairbanks, discussing public access issues and employment opportunities at Denali National Park, and also meeting with local community leaders.

“I look forward to showing Secretary Salazar and Senator Reed everything Alaska has to offer our country – and also our state’s unique needs.”
